Washington DC

Washington DC 063, originally uploaded by kieronbm.

Maddie's rad friends (Kayla, and Emily), on their recent bus trip to Washington DC.

Maddie has created a web site

Well, taking the next step, Maddie has created a web site. I'd like to archive it, before it changes...I wonder how I can do that...hmm...I guess maybe I can save it as a file...

I saw a Smart Car DRIVING

While I'm thinking of it (AT 5:49 IN THE MORNING)...I saw a Smart Car DRIVING on College Ave. a week ago, when I went to pickup Molly at pottery camp. Time to buy stock, I'm tellin' ya! I'm a bit of a whiz at picking stocks, and if this is the only car they sell, then by all means, TIME TO MAKE A QUICK BUCK.

After a little research, you're not going to be able to make any cash of this one:

Preparations for the smart fortwo began in the early 1990’s with a Joint Venture between Mercedes-Benz and Swatch,
Prices are $12 - $14K, and they go on sale 1/08 (it's $99 to reserve yours now).

Did you know that every time someone sends an e-mail with the caps lock on, an internet fairy dies?

Molly's summer has been filled with camps. This past week it was tennis. She complains about them all, but really, I think she likes them.

The whole fan-damily (sans moi) is off to Michigan today and tomorrow, to return in a week. So, I'm lining up the game nights, dinners with SamA, etc. Festivities start tonight.

But, I will miss them, and they me.

the Samaritans and Gulo-Gulo

Just got back from a 1-hour talk on marriage. He had some real interesting things to say about the history of Israel and Judea (and the Samaritans), believe it or not (since they relate to the story of the woman at the well).

Gotta go play Gulo-Gulo with Daulton!

Yelling DOUBLE JOWLER

Went out to dinner at Lincoln Square with SamP at about 9:45p after playing TWO games of TS with Jim Ginn on Saturday. SamP and I played "Pass the Pigs" at the table. It's a fun game, mostly because the pigs look so cute and you yell things like "DOUBLE JOWLER!" (shocking patrons and chagrining waitstaff).

On Sunday, Molly and I went swimming at the neighbors (I'm a bit sunburned now), then I played another game (just 3 turns out of 10) with John. It turns out that game isn't his cup of tea, so no more TS for him (poor guy). Church was "Corpus Christi", meaning the "Body of Christ", so the sermon was on the eucharist (meaning "thanksgiving", so we should always try to receive it even if we think we otherwise don't "need" it).

After church I grilled a burger.

A man approached my wife at scary Marsh

Yesterday a man approached my wife at scary Marsh (they were in the detergent aisle), and asked her if she knew how to get blood out of clothing.

I laughed, thinking her was kidding.

He wasn't.

Extra point trivia

I'm playing in three (count 'em, three) e-mail games at the moment (that is, e-mail versions of traditional board games). One is a tournament DoA, the other is finishing up just-for-fun DoA, and the third is a "nice game of chess" with NickV.

Extra point trivia: what movie is the "nice game of chess" from?

Don't click on "comments" until you think you've got it, and no fair using the imdb.

Odd noises coming from the basement

Visiting my parents right now - Molly in the basement being tickled by Lynda, while Breon and I play with his camera phone.

Very odd noises coming from the basement (some sort of b-day present for Molly...a jungle toy).

The block party went well

The block party went well...probably 20 adults, 10 children...plenty of food...kids had fun. We were planning for up to 60, but it was actually nicer to have fewer. [edit: Courtney, who is a better counter, says that we had 53...so whatever]

Don't make me snap my fingers in a "Z" formation!

Slideshow of photos.

Apropos of nothing, I ran across this photo of Sam from 2003, and felt like sharing it.

TONIGHT: FREE BEER

Bought a pony keg for the first time in my life this morning (for our block party). We're hoping free beer will attract people. Reminds me of that joke about a rock band named "Free Beer". On the marquee "TONIGHT: FREE BEER".

For the first time in at least a MONTH I actually learned a new move in my Tai Chi class (as opposed to just perfecting moves I already have learned). It has to do with breaking an elbow (not yours, your opponents).

I played TS with DanD last night, til about oh-dark-30. I won (I think...it was a bit confusing since we didn't finish, and the time clock was misunderstood a bit), but it was his first game, so we were just playing to "learn the rules". That's what I told him anyway...I still log it in the "win" column.
