Duel of Ages
Wednesday, June 7th.
Black: Leroy, DaveK
White: Me
Dealt and passed out characters (each team gets 8 characters, and must pass three to the other team).
They gave me Robin Hood (among others), thinking that he'd only be any good with a bow which is correct, but proved to be their downfall). I kept Wintercreak (he can only move 3, but ROCKS at melee, easily hit, but sure to land crushing blow after crushing blow with a health of 12 when most charcters have a health of 4 or 5).
I picked a platter with A LOT of woods (this turned out to be key as well).
And what turns up in my team's vault? Not only a kick-butt futuristic bow, but an ARCHER'S BADGE. I proceed to get both for Robin Hood, and put him on the mesa in the center of the board, overlooking the wooded platter.
Wintercreak ends up in the woods, fighting?? three of the black team, while Robin Hood picked people off from the top of the mesa (with the badge, and no penalty for firing into woods, he can only miss if he rolls an 11 or 12 with two dice).
I DOMINATED. Out of 7 possible victory points, I got a perfect 7 - a first (that's right - I even destroyed their HQ).
I think it was a BIG mistake to try and melee with Wintercreak. They claimed they felt they had no choice. I don't understand that.
[Note added 6/26: I just read in the rules today that if you draw a badge for your vault, you are supposed to DISCARD it, so this scenario wouldn't have worked.]
