Poor Waif, Left Standing Alone

Courtney got a call at work at 3pm today...

"Mrs. Mitchell, your daughter is waiting for you to pick her up here at camp. All the other campers have been picked up."

Apparently, Molly's four-day camp was, in fact, a three day camp.

Update for 7/29/05

This past week Maddie has been in JA Camp. She is really having fun - learning about microecon. and philanthropy [added photos at the bottom of the post on 8/8]. It's nice they have a focus on that. Today at 3:30 they are doing some sort of graduation thing, which is why I'm not at work at the moment.

Molly this week went to a 4-day (just 1/2 days) VBS at the Family Center (Regnum Christi). Other than a rug burn, she seemed to have fun! Next week (starting Sunday) she's going to CYO camp (same place Maddie went) for four days. She's not been away from home like that b4...yikes!

Kerry and Breon are flying back from Germany on Sunday, I'm going to try and (at least) meet them at the 'port, if not convince Kerry to stay a few days with us.

Court had her book club on Wed, and I played poker last night (lost). I'm on a two session losing streak. It's starting to bother me.

Tomorrow (Sat.) I'm at work from 9a - 2p, helping to load a semi-trailer bound for Tegucigalpa, Honduras. It only costs about $3,000 to send over 30,000 pounds of stuff down there. $0.10 per pound isn't bad! Plus they end up keeping the trailer - some missions turn it into living quarters (the picture at the end of this post is what the Navy has done with some containers)!

On monday Maddie is sleeping over at the zoo (hopefully she won't kill any emus)?!? Sounds strange to me, but apparently, that's what's happening.

Tuesday the construction guy is coming over for some reason (the add-on begins in September). His name is Mr. Courtney (which is why we chose him). His bid was the middle of the three we got...

Molly has started piano lessons (I'm reminded since she is practicing RIGHT NOW). She takes them from a nice "old" lady down the street. Molly seem more interested than Maddie was when Maddie took them (Maddie did last a year, however). We'll see how long Molly lasts.

I remember my Mom had to PAY me to practice piano. I guess my price eventually got too high (I refused to continue after a year or two). Oh well...C'est la vie.

Better run...

Maddie, caught in the act of SWEEPING AT CAMP?!?

The Navy uses containers as living quarters.

Postcard from Maddie's Camp

Postcard from Maddie's Camp

Someone at work told me that he didn't think it was a good idea to have our address posted on the internet, in our blog, so I've redacted the street address and zip out of the postcard. I think that's the first time I've used the word "redacted". Felt good.

7/29: Just looked up "redacted". I think I used it incorrectly. Should have said, "I've redacted the postcard by removing the street address and zip." Don't feel so good NOW, do I?

Send Maddie a note!

We dropped off Maddie this afternoon. It's hot down there in Brown County!

You can send her an e-mail at campermail@campranchoframasa.org. Put "Maddie Mitchell / Cabin G (Debbie)" in the subject line (or she won't get it). She'll be back Friday, July 22nd so hurry, hurry, hurry!

Time for Camp!

Maddie leaves today for a week at CYO Camp - Rancho Framasa! It's her third year, and she is really excited. She's going with two friends, and there will be at least three or four other girls from her school (same approximate age) there at the same time as well.

Went to church this morning with my uncle-in-law David.

Last night Molly and I had a fun time at a pool party - even tho it rained. It was cool being in the hot tub with the rain pelting down! I also saw a bit of Raiders of the Lost Ark again (brought back some memories of high school).

Night b4 last I played Heroscape with Sam...I won, but just barely. We've got it set up now on our dining room table - hopefully having it out will make us play it more (since I like it, but it takes SO long to set up...it's a bit of a drag).

Well - gotta run go get a rain slicker for Maddie before they get back from church!
