Hopefully, this is from some jokester

Dear eBay Member,

We regret to inform you that your eBay account will be suspended due
to concerns we have for the safety and integrity of the eBay community.

"Abusing eBay" of the eBay User Agreement states, in part:

"..we may limit, suspend, or terminate our service and user accounts,
prohibit access to our website, remove hosted content, and take
technical and legal steps to keep users off the Site if we think that they are
creating problems, possible legal liabilities, or acting inconsistently
with the letter or spirit of our policies."

Due to the suspension of this account, please be advised you are
prohibited from using eBay in any way. This includes the registering of a new
account.

To avoide this suspension please login into you account and follow the instructions:

https://signin.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?SignInco_partnerId=2pUserId=siteid=0page

Please note that any seller fees due to eBay will immediately become
due and payable. eBay will charge any amounts you have not previously
disputed to the billing method currently on file.

Thanks for your patience as we work together to protect your service.

Regards,

Safeharbor Department
eBay, Inc

Hope you don't seriously think that's legit, although it's a pretty good spoof. I definitely hope you didn't click the link and fill out the info or you've handed your ebay info over to someone else. Note that the link actually takes you to a domain called "logon-keys.com". Further investigation shows that domain was just registered on 8/3/2006 by someone in France.

I would suggest forwarding the message to spoof@ebay.com. Do not alter the message. If you've entered the info, I would change your ebay and paypal passwords immediately.

GOOD DAN! That's what I JUST told Courtney!
It's a fake-I get them every couple of weeks- for paypal AND ebay.

Thanks, Dan. I just got a call from Court this morning, she was worried, and insisted that I test my eBay account, etc.

It's sad that this thing is so prevalent, and that people must fall for it so often.

:-) Hope you read my answer and/or heard from Kelley before you did anything with it. These spoofs are getting pretty good. The best thing you can do to avoid trouble with something like this is never click the link. If you get a message that you think *might* be legit, open your browser and go to the site yourself. If it's legit, you'll get the info that way and you'll be certain to go to the right place.

Actually I DID click on the link, but it didn't work.

Can I get a virus or anything just from clicking on a link?

If so...a little cream should clear it right up...

Thanks for the tip, kel-mo. Why don't you get back to work? ;-)
